Some people design with their eyes, and others with their minds. Lee Alexander McQueen designed with his soul. Originally trained as a bespoke tailor on London’s famed Savile Row, McQueen eventually established his own fashion house and both shocked and delighted the fashion world with his unconventional designs, which hit every note in the fashion gamut from alien to ethereal to industrial. He became known as “l’enfant terrible” for his controversial runway shows. Everyone talked about him; fans and critics alike. The fashion world reeled with shock when McQueen took his own life on February 11, 2010, the day before his beloved mother’s funeral; she had lost her battle with cancer only nine days prior.
