Anne Klein Eyewear

When it comes to modern women’s sportswear, Anne Klein is representative of the genre. Born Hannah Gofolski in 1923, Klein rose to prominence in the world of design by creating sportswear that was at once chic and accessible, perfect for a woman-about-town. A consummate New Yorker, Klein was inspired by the city to design with an easy sensibility that was still sharply stylish. She designed sportswear, apparel, shoes, watches, and, of course, eyewear. Anne Klein & Co. was established in 1968. It currently houses two brands: Anne Klein New York, its flagship brand, and AK Anne Klein, a diffusion line. Klein herself died of breast cancer in 1974, at which point fledgling designer Donna Karan took over. Karan was head designer of Anne Klein & Co. until she left in 1985 to establish Donna Karan New York. Anne Klein eyewear is known for its clean lines and its sophisticated aesthetic.
