You wouldn’t think that an Austrian designer could have such an impact on the hip hop fashion scene. But in the 1980s, Cari Zalloni did just that with his sunglass designs. His first two sunglass models, the 951 and 955, were an instant hit with hip hop artists and their surrounding community. Zalloni named his new brand of eyewear after himself, CAri ZALloni. CAZAL Eyewear was born. CAZAL Eyewear appealed to the hip hop community for a variety of different reasons. Zalloni’s designs were unique, like nothing anyone had ever seen before. His frame shapes were different, but not so alien that people couldn’t relate to them. They were meticulously crafted, with an intense commitment to quality that the designer himself insisted upon. CAZAL still makes sunglasses, but offers optical frames as well. And, today, the appeal of CAZAL Eyewear reaches beyond hip hop to the rest of the world.
