Paul Smith never intended to become a fashion designer. As a teen, his dream was to be a racing cyclist. But a bad cycling accident at age seventeen prevented him from attaining this dream. It was unfortunate for the aspiring athlete. But it was fortunate for the fashion world. After leaving the hospital, young Paul reunited with some friends, and had his first look into the colorful, imaginative world of art. He was immediately struck with the appeal of this world, and his love for fashion was born. With the encouragement of his then-girlfriend and future wife (whose name happens to be named Pauline. They are a fashion match made in heaven), he opened a small boutique and began taking tailoring classes. It wasn’t long before his first menswear collection was taking Paris by storm. Paul Smith Eyewear is just as innovative as Smith’s first collection: bold, masculine, and beautiful.
