As the old saying goes: “If the shoe fits, wear it.” Anyone accusing Italian shoe designer Salvatore Ferragamo of loving good design would have been rewarded with acquiescence to the accusation. Ferragamo was the eleventh of fourteen children and began cobbling shoes together at the age of nine, making special shoes for his sisters to wear to their Confirmations. After studying shoemaking in Naples for a year, young Ferragamo set off for the New World to make his fortune. He enjoyed moderate success in Hollywood, but it wasn’t until he began studying anatomy at the University of Southern California that he finally began to understand how to revolutionize footwear with a shoe that was both comfortable and stylish. He changed footwear forever. Salvatore Ferragamo brought this same commitment to comfort and style to his eyewear designs. He proved that you don’t have to sacrifice comfort on the altar of fashion.
